Abrasion and Testing

A tight weave with twisted pile yarns keeps both problems under control. Also check the colorfastness to light and to wet and dry rubbing, particularly for fabrics that will be exposed to direct sunlight or steam cleaning.

For routine maintenance, vacuuming with a soft brush attachment and immediate blotting of spills will keep most cut pile furniture looking good for years. Professional extraction cleaning should be reserved for deep soiling.

The fastest way to test a potential supplier is to order production-like samples and evaluate them with the same cutting, sewing, and cleaning processes you use in your factory. Keep this checklist in hand:

1. Confirm pile direction and shading tolerance. Cut pile has a nap, and panels sewn in opposite directions will look like different colors.
2. Inspect the backing stability. A coated or well-tied backing prevents seam slippage and edge fraying.
3. Ask for pile height tolerance. Variation above about 0.3 mm across a roll will create visible shading on assembled sofas.
